Well Tag Number 127155 Missing from Database

Describe the Bug

• WTN 127155 appears to be completely deleted from the database.
• In the GWELLS application you CANNOT delete records, the only action you can take for an incorrect or duplicated well is to “unpublish” the well.
• Internal users can unpublish well and view unpublished well. This WTN is not unpublished, it is completely missing.
• This WTN would have been used December 2nd based on the WTN used before and after.
• To the best of Service Owner's knowledge for a well record to be deleted it is a back-end manual delete? Not sure if its possible for applications linked directly to delete – such as water licensing?

Expected Behaviour

• Expect the WTN to exist and be either unpublished or published.

Actual Behaviour

• Search this number in the application and the database (Norris Ng looked in the database table and there was no entry at all – we found this by accident while doing a well data export)

Implications

• Best practice for the database is to never delete and records, only to unpublish. Auditable and transparent data storage. Questions: was this intentional? Or accidental? A bug? How did this happen? Is it happening to other records? How often is this occurring? How do we track and stop this?

Team Question

• How does GWELLS get data? Does it come from the BC Data Catalogue? Or does GWELLS data populate the catalogue? Answer: GWELLS supplies data to BC Data Catalogue

ACTIONS for Leia

1. Look for another example and see if there's a pattern
2. Check with previous team re: how information is entered into GWELLS and expected behaviour (ie. WTNs being skipped - is that possible?)

Steps To Reproduce

1. Search WTN 127155 in the application and data
2. Hit search – no entry

Until this happens again, we will disregard. Would need to check the logs.

An investigation is needed as this is not the only Well Tag Number that is missing.

The Well Tab Number in GWELLS are not continuous in the search result table (which includes unpublished wells) indicates that there are more Well Tag Numbers are possibly missing. Is it possible that this is not a data loss, but because these Well Tag Numbers are simply skipped and have never been assigned to well records? (For example, a glitch happens when there are 2 users registering wells (submitting new reports) at the same time?).
