Updates to scripts and docs

This applies changes to the build and deploy scripts that have been applied to SMK apps but not here.

The email used in the code of conduct is also updated.

This updates docs with additional details.

For reviewing changes, I wanted to mention I've created two follow on tasks related to these changes:

• Create a GitHub service account for SMK app deploys so we can stop using our personal accounts. I want to spend more time discussing what email to use - whether we create one or reuse one for our team.
• Update the deploy script to create a Horizontal Pod Autoscaler. It only takes a few minutes to do this manually but I'd like to get it automated. This is best done in our next new SMK app so we can test it as the first deploy takes place.
