How to configure applications that use Spring MVC for GAE Java. Is there an
article which gives this information?

More specifically I would like to know if I am required to upload spring
related jars also to the cloud?

This is possible. I have done it - see http://get-item.appspot.com/ 
Nothing fancy but was just trying to see if i could get appengine with spring 
as u are. I made some notes about this on my blog
