Support for STA 2nd Edition #219

As of July 24th, the PDF for 2nd edition is now available to order. The character creator should be updated to support 2nd edition.

How? My plan is that if the user has selected the Core 2e source on the source selection page, we'll create 2nd-edition characters and starships. If they haven't selected that source, we'll create 1st-edition characters and starships. I'll keep this plan in place for the foreseeable future. I cannot currently foresee the unforeseeable future.

What? The following things seem to have changed:

I may uncover other changes as well.

how to handle Species abilities for the species in the creator that aren't referenced in the 2nd edition book.

I would say just leave the space blank. You could theoretically go through and find out which species have a required talent and make that the ability (e.g. Klingons had to take Brak'lul as a talent in 1E, now it's their ability) but there's far more species that don't have that than do. Since it's likely that each table will work with their GM on this until an official supplement with more abilities comes out, blank is better in my opinion.

So a flag would be needed for the 14 species in the 2E core... or I guess all species? Maybe an "Ability: y/n" type of thing, and a field for the ability text that is pulled if the answer is yes.

additional character types (Romulan player characters, Ferengi player characters, etc)

I think Aenar are the only new to 2E species. Everything else was in the canon character packs or the quadrant books.

pastimes

Other than a blank field in the character sheet, I think a random generator would be the only thing this needs?

testing the export for VTTs when we have version 2 characters (Foundry has a 2e module; others do not)

I suppose that depends on how the export works or recognizes fields, but I don't know any of that.

Assuming a single export for all characters: Since the 12 stats are the same, that should be fine. Leaving off weapons (or just having their title) might work to mitigate the d6 difference. Depending on how 1E VTTs import, they might ignore pastime and species ability fields.

Or tying the export version to the source chosen would solve the problem.

I cannot currently foresee the unforeseeable future.

Have you contacted the Department of Temporal Affairs?

OR maybe for ability, just say 'if no ability, allow a 5th talent' (Inspired by an offhand comment on a forum about compatibility).
