Lower bit rate sampling than expected #95

Does soundflower act as a pure conduit for sound or does it reduce the sound
quality?

I have been sampling films and tv shows by using soundflower to send audio from
my macbook's dvd player to Logic. The sound quality has been pretty good
although it does sound ever so slightly "mp3 like".

As an A/B test hooked the tv up to my focusrite sapphire 6 and sampled directly
into logic which gave me a more "wav like" and more dynamic signal. I made no
changes to the settings in Logic.

I don't really care about dynamics, but I worried that i am capturing at a
lower bit rate when using soundflower.

Do you think this is a soundflower issue or is it perhaps an issue with macbook
DVD player?

Confirming that the difference in audio quality, even from just straight
playback from Soundflower to the 2 main outputs of my MR816CSX (Latest Drivers,
OSX ML 10.8.4) is night and day in terms of stereo field and high end quality.

Either SF is having problems with Nyquist, it isn't sampling a clean bit for
bit signal to be passed on at it's very inception, or something within
soundflower is deteriorating that quality.
