Reading flow meter on Beaglebone Black #152

I am trying to read a Sea YF-S401 flow meter using the Beaglebone Black. I cant seem to find any tutorials or information on how to do this anywhere. Does anyone know of a tutorial or video for this? Can this just be hooked up to one of the digital pins using a 10k resistor in line, that seems to be what people are doing on the Arduino. Such as GPIO_48, P9.15? Can someone help me? Is there a simple way to verify the flow meter is reading without writing a bunch of code?
