Enable hardware acceleration for Movist? #218

Hello. First of all, I love Movist, it is amazing media player, keep up the
great work!
I'm submitting an issue or a feature request, I'm not entirely sure what is
this.
I'm using MacBook Air 2.1 with OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.5 x64 and Movist - latest
version.
I need the MacBook to play flawlessly a 1080p file, because I'm going to use it
on 42 inch LCD TV through HDMI.
With QuickTime's native codecs installed (Perian is uninstalled), I can play an
MP4 1080p file with H264 compression. While playing, the computer's CPU usage
goes between 10% and 15%, which indicates that there is huge GPU acceleration
active.
However when I play the same file in Movist, I am getting 120-150% CPU usage.
This indicates that only the processor is doing the playback with no GPU
acceleration.
For playback on Movist I use FFMPEG decoder. When I switch to QuickTime
decoder, I get a choppy playback. While on FFMPEG, the movie plays normally,
however there are sometimes spikes which makes the movie go choppy from time to
time.
Can you please tell me what to do to get QuickTime's hardware acceleration
active on Movist?

Thank you!

Jordan Petkov

I have the same issue. Granted my CPU usage goes from about 10% with Quicktime
to around 40 with Movist (instead of 120), it seems the same issue applies.

Perhaps we can get an update on the progress of this issue?

@lougoose

You should lower your expectations.
Movist's last version was made 14 month ago and there is no sign of any
development still going on...
