Sorry but this is not enough info to troubleshoot, because, not trying to be difficult but this just means exactly what it says. You need to assign your device to a location or a hub. If you have done this, what are you trying to do when you get this message? Which version of the device handler are you using?

Hi I am getting this error when setting up a device in smartthings "A Device must have either a Location or a Hub” Can you please help? Thanks. — You are receiving this because you are subscribed to this thread. Reply to this email directly, view it on GitHub, or mute the thread.
When you say “device” do you mean the rm pro? as I do not have a hub. Can you guide me on how to locate my rm pro to a specific locaiton?
Thanks.
Are you trying to use the cloud version of my device handler?

When you are creating your device there is a drop down box to choose a location. Just choose one and the error should go away. If you have not created any locations, please go to the smart things app basic instructions for initial setup. I think you can also create locations in the smartthings web interface by choosing "my locations."
If you don't have a hub, you can only use the cloud version of the device handler, not the LAN one.

I am using the cloud service.
Can I ask you how is Alexa connected? I have created a location on smartthings but how does it link with my amazon echo? I am lost.
After you confirm that your device works with SmartThings, go into your Alexa app and add the SmartThings skill under the "smart home" tab. Follow the setup instructions there.
If this is still difficult, I would recommend searching the Internet for basic instructions and an overview of both the use of SmartThings and how to set up Alexa for Smart Home control, as I can't provide a tutorial covering all of that background here. Please feel free to ask more questions after you've done that, if something specific still does not make sense or if an issue arises with getting the Broadlink app to work.
Thanks. Becky

Thanks Becky.
Sounds like one of the issues I hit. You should go to the SmartThings api site and click on 'New Hub' & 'New Location'. Just call location = 'Home'. Hub isn't mandatory. However this is maybe why setup isn't quite working!
