Seed for a followup to Alys's classic Veggieminding post:

Are you looking for more Beeminder tips? Consider the ["Predefined Milestones" goal]( https://www.beeminder.com/alys/1000fv "An easy way to keep on track for a goal with multiple steps" ) that I used to keep myself on track while writing this blog post. I had an immovable deadline many weeks away and a strong desire to shamelessly procrastinate, so I split up the effort into multiple tiny bits that could be comfortably spread over all of those weeks. I created a "Do More" goal with a rate of 1 per week, and pre-populated it with ["target" datapoints]( https://www.beeminder.com/alys/1000fv/datapoints?dir=asc&sort=created_at "The tasks to achieve and the dates on which I hoped to achieve them" ) dated a week apart, each with a value of zero, and each with a comment describing what I hoped to achieve that week. Then, when I accomplished each tiny task, I added a [real datapoint]( https://www.beeminder.com/alys/1000fv/datapoints?dir=asc&sort=measured_at "My actual accomplishments listed with the matching targets" ) with a value of 1 and a comment describing what I had actually done. The real points did not always map precisely to the appropriate target points, but instead were sometimes ahead of where they needed to be. This turned out to be an easy and successful way to keep myself on track for a goal with multiple small steps and a hard deadline. Beeminder's datapoint sorting options helped: "Entry Order [up]" shows the [target datapoints]( https://www.beeminder.com/alys/1000fv/datapoints?dir=asc&sort=created_at "The tasks to achieve and the dates on which I hoped to achieve them" ) in chronological order, and "Date Order [up]" lists the [target and real points]( https://www.beeminder.com/alys/1000fv/datapoints?dir=asc&sort=measured_at "My actual accomplishments listed with the matching targets" ) for comparison.

(Alys's 1000fv goal is archived now though.)
