@thom8 The code change looks great. Can this PR also contain changes to README.txt please. Just that first couple of lines about installation.

@alexdesignworks planning to keep this PR open a while to test for regressions and work through the doc updates as they will be outdated.

Will also include bump to 0.5.0 as change will break backwards compatibility.
