Persistent Blindness #29

I'm near the end game, fighting Eldritch Guardians, and for the third time now I've been stuck with what seems like permanent blindness. I affects the screen like normal blindness, but it doesn't have a buff icon/timer, drinking milk doesn't do anything, and it persists through respawn. It does go away after a long time (10 mins maybe), but it's unclear why or how long, and it makes the game unplayable. Here's a few screenshots.

I've got a talisman of light equipped in the first two, and I took it off for the last one.

Any ideas what's going on here? Is it intended, like a Doom effect or something? It seems too punishing too be intended. I'm looking for in game ways to fix it in the mean time, but I'd really appreciate help.

Some updates: After a lot of waiting, I'm pretty sure it won't just away on it's own, but I did finally shut down the internal server and did a full restart, which fixed it. Still annoying - basically guaranteed death if it happens in combat - but at least there's a simple (if disruptive) fix.
