Description

Provides fixes to tests and ci and general refactoring to the work of the target PR #35.

This PR is meant to open discussion and provide a diff.

If it would be merged, merge with rebase strategy in target branch before closing the main PR.

Notes

Merging to target branch proposed strategy:

rebase target branch on main
drop the first 4 commits of this branch (they come from merging main into this branch, which should be ok when target branch is rebased)
merge into target with "rebase and merge" strategy to keep the history
proceed to merge target into main as normally
