Certain FLAC files will not convert to Apple Lossless #195

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Select the file in any manner (whether through the menu options or
drag-and-drop
2. Choose to convert it to either 16 or 24-but Apple Lossless
3. Progress window reports "Error has occurred in the decoder"

How about the reproducibility (always, sometimes, rarely, ...)? Always - but
only with specific files

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
You would expect it to convert without error

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? 20130720
(144.0) / OS X 10.8.4

Please provide any additional information below.
I would be happy to provide two of the FLAC files, but they are both much
larger than the max size for attachments. I will happily share them but I'd
rather not do it publicly (these music files are subject to copyright after
all).

Update: it looks like a couple of other users have reported this too (tags 191,
194)

Please send me the address of the uploaded file by e-mail.

Issue 191 and 194 are different problem. They both doesn't raise "Error has
occurred in the decoder" message.

The file is (partially) broken.

That may be - however, other decoders work just fine, and the output has no
audible defects either. I've used both Audiogate and Audacity without issue.
Are you sure the error reported is accurate?

At a minimum, shouldn't the error message be a little clearer on what the issue
is?

Most of FLAC decoders (from 3rd party) ignore these errors. XLD works carefully
with FLAC files, to ensure bit perfect result.

I've used the official FLAC decoder for testing (flac command line binary with
-t switch). If you doubt my result, check the files by yourself.

geez, what a pedantic f*cker. your precious little "bit perfection" is
preventing lots of folks from converting files, unnecessarily.

This is bullshit. I'd rather have an imperfect file than no file at all. Maybe
other decoders have a reason to work the way they do? Consider that? Because
now I'm going to one of them.

I've encountered this error too now after updating to the latest version,
repeatedly!
