File conversions from FLAC/WAV/AIFF etc to Apple Lossless 'hang' just before completion for long periods of time #285

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open any existing file in FLAC, WAV etc format via a cue sheet or "Open
Folder as Disc"
2. Transcode to Apple Lossless (setting "Include pre-gap for all tracks"—I've
never tried to change this)
3. The files will convert suspiciously quickly until the progress bar is filled
(sometimes at 25x or above), and then hang at 99% or thereabouts for a length
of time dependent, I think, on the size of the output file (some sub 5 minute
tracks converted in less than a minute, whereas a 30 minute one took almost an
hour to complete)
4. Note that this does not happen when ripping directly to Apple Lossless from
a CD.

How about the reproducibility (always, sometimes, rarely, ...)?
Always, but if XLD's been inactive for a while or I'm not trying to convert
more than 8 tracks at a time, it resolves itself faster

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected output is this not happening. Instead, it happens.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
20140504 (147.0) on Mac OS 10.7.5, using a 2012 MacBook Pro

Please provide any additional information below.
See images. The five tracks that "froze" from roughly 16:39:30 to 16:41:30
subsequently completed rapidly in order of file size. Activity Monitor showed
no unusual activity during this time and XLD continued to respond normally.
