BrowserFS Deprecated #72

Hi there, I'm the maintainer of BrowserFS. I've been going through the dependents of browserfs.

Please see the notice in the readme: https://github.com/jvilk/browserfs

Would you be interested in updating your project to use the updated fork, ZenFS?

bengarrett commented 7 months ago

Hi James, Thanks for the heads-up. If ZenFS is a drop-in replacement I will be happy to update the dependencies.

Do you know if there would be any obvious incompatibilities with jvilk/browserfs-zipfs-extras?

james-pre commented 7 months ago

The big change to @zenfs/core over BrowserFS is that the configuration has been significantly overhauled. Please look at the ZenFS core readme for some examples and explanations.

I expect jvilk/browserfs-zipfs-extras not to be compatible, and would be surprised if it works. Since you rely on it, I can look into adding all of those compression/decompression methods soon.

Thank you for the offer. However, I do not want to create extra work for you just for this one app that depends on the zipfs-extras library, as this DOSee app is in maintenance mode.

@bengarrett,

While I did not prioritize the other decompression methods, it should be straightforward. If it is not as much of a priority for you, I will probably wait until after the ZenFS 1.0 release to work on the extra decompression methods.

That sounds good, thanks, and best of luck on the road to 1.0.
