Commercially available Focus sensor #12

Perhaps it's worth a try to test one of the SHARP distance sensors. They have an analog readout:

I ordered one which claims a distance range of 2-15cm image

Not sure if it's a really continuous readout. Will see.

Same problem as the DIY sensor: Reflection based sensors won'T work well with rough surfaces like the multiwell plate. But: It could detect ~50-100µm distance deviation if you have a good OPAMP and constant voltage source.
