If we going to run a modded server, we need to decide what we want to run and why. A few criteria:
Highly used, record of maintenance. Once modded, if a mod becomes unmaintained, we can never upgrade our server again. You can't uninstall a mod, the data exists. Lock-in is dangerous.
Reasonable memory usage. If a mod is leaky, it will be expensive to run a machine that can handle it.
Adds to the experience in a meaningful way. What are we after? More adventure? More kinds of mobs? More blocks? Why? How much should it alter the core MC experience?
