In the first version of SLAPNAP, we measured individual importance the same way that we measured predictive importance -- namely, on the level of presence/absence of a particular residue at a given site (e.g., D at 757). This update allows intrinsic importance to be measured at the site level instead (e.g., importance of site 757), using a new flag, ind_importance_type, which can take values "sitewise" or "residuewise".
