If so, we would need to think about a way to draw custom controls and still handle buttons and such, which I would prefer to do with native GUI elements.

For snip-like stuff to have more drawing control see chess
Or, use canvases and maybe canvas-list

Simply: no. There is a legal restriction on use of that material. I can, however, design my own.
