Is anybody working on this? I'm trying to get Gears to compile against the
Gecko 1.9 SDK, but am a little out of
my depth :) It's fun trying though...

No, nobody is working on it. Have at it :-).
What are the symptoms when you just change the version number in install.rdf and
install the one that builds against 1.8.0?

On Linux with the latest nightly, the symptoms are Minefield doing as the name
suggests and exploding :) The
XPI is installed with no problems, but when restarting the browser, the 'Crash!
Bang! Boom!' dialog appears.
On OS X, the browser doesn't crash, but the extension doesn't appear to work -
window.google doesn't get
defined.

Oops, clarification - I meant to say that Minefield on Linux crashes when
navigating to a page that uses Gears,
not any page.

Moving to 0.3 release, but lowering priority so it happens after other 0.3
tasks.

I hope Gears is working when Firefox 3 releases.

Should someone perhaps consider bumping the priority of this? Firefox 3 is
nearing
release, and unfortunately the early-adopter crowd that is currently using
Gears is
also a crowd likely to update to FF3. I have a site with simple gears
functionality,
and I'm already seeing a few hundred ff3b3 hits.
Just my $0.02, it would be a greatly appreciated feature.

Yes, it's already on the plate for Gears 0.3.
(The 'Priority' field is misleading. High/Med/Low should perhaps be 1/2/3; it
just
indicates what order we are tackling the tasks for 0.3.)

I am looking forward to this, too.
Do we have any ETA on the 0.3 release?

Did you mean BETA?

No, ETA
"estimated time of arrival" ;)
Sorry.
Is the lates trunk already working with FF3b5?

Yes, it is. We're going to begin testing it internally at Google this week
hopefully.

I was trying to build svn revision 1380 on 64 bit ubuntu 7.10 without the FF3
sdk
installed. The current build expected to be able to copy browser-overlay.* and
gears.xpt (and the .xpt dependencies) from the ff3/genfiles to ff2/genfiles. To
build
with gust the firefox 2 sdk I had to add a few new targets and comment out some
of
the FF3_OUTDIR rules in FFMERGED_INSTALLER_XPI.
It might be nice to be able to select which versions of firefox you want to
install
gears for.
