Add File Associations for Gears Applications #745

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Uninstall Microsoft Office Word, try to double-click on a DOC file and
get it to open in Google Docs. See the problem?

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
As with any application (offline or online), I would expect to be able to
select a file association for my computer's local file, to open them
directly by double-clicking.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Does it matter?

Please provide any additional information below.
Take a step back, see the bigger picture for a moment. What are the things
that local software (any software) have done for years, that Online
applications fail to do?
