Gmail UI distorted when gears (0.5.25.0) is enable on IE 8 #901

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. install gears 0.5.25.0
2. go to gmail, click offline, and sync
3. sign out and go offline
4. open IE, signin to gmail, verify UI looks good
5. connect back to internet, login to gmail
6. view gmail UI

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
UI should not change or distorted, However now the top buttons are all 
aligned to the left. 

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Windows Vista with IE 8

Please provide any additional information below.
verified this does not occur using Windows XP
