FF 3.5 + Gears 0.5.29.0 causes continuous reload loop in GMail #918

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install Firefox 3.5 (latest version)
2. Install Gears 0.5.29.0 (latest version)
3. Load GMail (https://mail.google.com/mail)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expect normal GMail inbox page. Instead GMail continually reloads,
displaying either a blank page or 'Loading...'

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Firefox 3.5, Gears 0.5.29.0, Windows XP

Please provide any additional information below.
Disabled all Firefox's extensions, re-enabled them one-by-one to narrow
down the culprit. Re-enabling Gears extension causes problem to reappear.
Reinstalling Gears does not help.

Tried again. Checked for updates (no updates found), re-enabled Gears, GMail is
still
in infinite reload loop.

I'm in FF 3.5.1 and couldn't even install. Managed to install and everything
good in
IE7. Still not a hint of action with FF.

I have the same problem. Just upgraded to FF 3.5.1 (already had Gears 0.5.30).
There
is a loop which doesn't allow me to access gmail. This goes away when I disable
Gears.
Seem to alternates between:
https://www.google.com/accounts/OfflineLogin?continue= ....
-and-
https://mail.google.com/mail/login_complete.html?dest=https://mail.google.com/
....

I have used FF 3.0.12 with no problem and Gears 0.5.XX for a while including
0.5.30
since it came out.

System with problems
Vista
Firefox 3.5.1
Gears 0.5.30

Upgraded Gears to 0.5.30.0 (per blurb in Firefox add-on dialog), problem
persists.

Firefox v3.5.2 (Macintosh), Gears v0.5.32.0

Gmail loading loop just appeared today (9/25/09). These symptoms were preceded
by an
Apple Software Update, including an update to Mac OS 10.5.8.

Disabling Google Gears in Firefox/Tools/Add-ons resolved loop. Re-enabling Gears
restores the looping symptom.

Emptying Firefox cache and deleting cookies has no effect upon loop symptoms.

Windows 7 x64, FF 3.5.3, Gears 0.5.32.0

Do you guys have third party cookies enabled? On my machine, I noticed that
unticking "Accept third party cookies" will cause Gmail to constantly reload as
described.

In Firefox, this option is located under Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom
settings for history" > Accept third party cookies.

Unticking this option and reloading the page will cause Gmail to constantly
reload.
Ticking this option and reloading fixes the problem.

@floyd.michael8:

I've disabled third party cookies as well, will have to try re-enabling.

This problem was also fixed for me by enabling third party cookies. If this is
the
default then I must have accidentally switched it off, and it's definitely not
a bug
in Gears. Possibly GMail could detect a cookie not persisting and break out of
the
loop, but that's another thing.
