Proposal: Website Portfolio #10

Open benmiller314 opened 3 years ago

Write a brief proposal for your multi-page website project. What materials or ideas will you include? Where will viewers of the site begin ("land"), and by what paths will they find their way to other areas of the site? How might you guide their attention to and through the materials, based on what you want to emphasize and on what they'll be looking for?

See the full range of thought-questions in the assignment prompt for brainstorming strategies.

As explained in class, your proposal should include the following:

For my website, I want to make a site to show off my various work and experiences, such as creative projects, writing, and code. I plan to have 3 main pages and several subpages, the main pages will be navigable by a top bar that is present on all the pages while the sub pages will be reachable through one of the main pages. There will be a home page that shows 'featured' projects with images from those projects, a 'about' page that has a picture of myself and a short bio, and a projects page that will link to subpages with all the information about different types of projects. I plan to make the website look something like this: Front Page concept where each page will have the top bar and background on either side, while the content in the middle will be different depending on which page you are on.

Some assets I expect to need are -background, maybe several variations of background - soothing neutral images from same sights as for visual? -images and files to populate projects page and home page (probably sourse from personal worK or dummy personal work) -possible use open source implementation of really pretty css buttons I have saved and likely more as the project progresses.

For my website, I’d like to do a mockup for my friend’s dream business. She wants to open a hybrid bookstore-café, which for the project, I’m calling “Loose Leaf.” I want to convey the feel of a warm, eclectic physical space for writers and readers. I’m thinking to do this by making the website look as if it was typed out by an old-school typewriter. A site for this business would definitely need a page or section explaining the bookstore half and one explaining the café half (with a menu). The third key element is a page explaining what the business becomes after hours (a meeting site for book clubs, advocacy groups, etc. – I’m going to call this “the Undergrounds” to play off of the café/coffee element). Along with those three pages, depending on how it’s progressing, I could add optional pages for events, contacting, and FAQs to make the website more extensive. I’m unsure whether I want to have separate pages or have sections on one running page. For the latter, I think scrolling from an anchored typewriter image to get to different sections could have a cool effect of “typing out” the website (although I’d need a navigation bar to allow for jumping around).

For my website, I want to attempt to tackle the issues of BLM, or what is trending more right now the 97% of women who have been sexually assaulted. I am thinking that this will almost be a informative website, with resources for things that are apart of the issues, and it will include some other things that help with the issues I am planning on tackling. Informative links, quotes from people, maybe even some interviews as well. I am hoping that this will work out the way that I am seeing it in my head just because I know it is a lot to tackle, and a lot to site and source since it is not going to all be my work. I just cant decide for sure as of right now what I really want to do.

I've always wanted to create a personal portfolio/website to showcase some of my work, experiences, and photography for a while now, so I'm really happy I get a chance to start working on it with this project! I created a sketch in Figma of my ideas so far that I attached below, but the gist is that there'll be four main pages: home, about, works, and photo. The home page is the landing page that provides a general overview of who I am as well as previews for projects I'm particularly proud of. The about page would include a photo of myself as well as a short bio detailing my current interests, plans for the future, and anything else I find fitting. For the next two pages, I decided to divide my work into a "works" page which would contain more coding/technical work that I've completed in my classes, any personal projects, and hackathon prototypes. Likewise, the "photos" page is separate and dedicated to showcasing the various pictures I've taken so far as well as descriptions for albums.

For this project, one thing I have been trying to learn more about is living more sustainably. However, finding the information about this important topic is often difficult or overwhelming. I would like to build a website with important links, information, and other resources so people can implement sustainable living into their everyday lives. I would break it up into three pages: the welcome/home page, living sustainably page (with information about how to cut areas of waste in different parts of your life), and additional resources page (books, podcasts, social media, etc).

For this website, I would need

I'm excited to use this project to craft my own digital portfolio as a burgeoning digital media professional/writer. I'm going to have several pages for each kind of work — including a spot for all my writing and the various outlets I've contributed to, as well as a section for writing I've done for class. Then I want an audio section, for my soundscape narrative as well of the files I have from my internship at NPR of the audio work I did there. I'll have a section for visual storytelling as well, laying the groundwork with my visual argument and then hopefully adding more as I create them throughout various work experiences. I'd also like to add an about section with a photo, my resume, and a description of the kind of job I'm looking to get and why someone would want to hire me.

For this project, I want to give an honest review of all or most of the classes that I have taken at Pitt. I love writing reviews on rate my professor, and this will be an opportunity for me to give a more holistic review of the class including some of the work that I did for the class. The landing page may be a self-introduction, and I am thinking I will either split the website into pages based on areas of study (humanities, natural sciences) or based on the order in which I took them (year, semester). I will have to find ways to keep the designs original since I could see it getting very repetitive for the same elements for different classes. I am thinking for my Spanish classes, I could write my review in Spanish and have a "translate" button to translate it to English. These are some drawings of my current vision for my website with a sketch of the homepage on the top and a sketch of the Spanish page below. layout-drawing At this point, it seems like most of the assets I will use for this project will be my own. I have created an assets.md file in my repository with some possible features that I may include on my website and their sources. Here is a link to my repository.

For this project I want to create a personal blog that can showcase some of the things that I have made, what I'm thinking about, and really just other things I've always wanted to share. I want it to be a website that sort of gives me a place to reflect on my own personal growth, and hopefully other people will find it interesting and maybe helpful. The website will be called "Renewal" because I want it to center around the idea of becoming new and gaining new perspectives everyday.

It will have a home page and three pages centering around the different parts of a person, the heart, the mind, and the soul. The heart page will be where the blog is located. The mind page will be where I put episodes of my podcast and also post some of the papers I have written while at school. The soul page will feature music that I am listening to and recommend as well as books that I am reading/recommend.

With this project, I would like to create a website about something I love the most: Bridges. I am studying to ultimately become a structural design engineer, and at this point in my undergraduate career, I have plenty of information to add to my website about Civil/Structural engineering in general. I intend to make my website consist of multiple pages. One obviously dedicated to different types of bridges and how they work (along with resources for more information). Also, I would like to include a few more pages that include: some of the fundamental calculations of civil engineering, some background information about myself, and more. I am excited to see where I can take this and hopefully build upon it as I get further into my career.

For my project, I think I want to document and share the small things that have brought me happiness during the past year. I want to include the small hobbies I’ve picked up, the movies I’ve watched for the first time and really enjoyed, the foods I’ve been cooking/eating, the new music I’ve found, the books I’ve read, the creative projects I’ve done, the new ways I’ve made quarantine in my apartment more homey and comfortable, miscellaneous pastimes that have gotten me through the year. At best, someone could come by and see some “happiness-inspo” that they can incorporate in their lives easily and cheaply. At worst, it’s just a record of sorts for me about this past year and an exercise in introspection and appreciation.

It’ll have a homepage with the title “It’s the Little Things” and a short blurb about me, what the site is about, and my intentions. From the homepage, there’ll be links to pages each one displaying a category of all the things that I want to share where I’ll have relevant images/links and descriptions listed out.

For my website, I would like to create a portfolio of all of the work I have completed thus far during this semester. I plan to include all of the large assignments/projects from each of my courses as well as the volunteering I completed/am currently involved in. I am looking forward to building this portfolio. I have always wanted to make one, but never had enough time to fully complete a working portfolio. This will also be a great resource when applying for future internships or jobs. There are several pages I plan to include within my site. First, the “Home” page will welcome visitors to my site and include a brief bio of myself as well as informing them of the purpose of the site. Next, the “User Experience” page will provide links to assignments/projects that are centered around user experience. I will also include a description of each link for the user to read prior to visiting the project. Similarly, the “Design” page will provide visitors with a description of each design-related project with links to visit. The “Volunteering” page will also provide descriptions as well as the volunteer work I have completed/am currently involved in. I will need to make a clear distinction on this page of the name of the organization/type of volunteering to show separation between each. Next, the “More About Me” page will include more in-depth information into my life outside of school, including my job and my interests. In the footer of each page will be an email icon (link attached) as well as a LinkedIn icon (link attached), for easy contact access when on each page. Lastly, I will include a page titled "Resume" that will include my resume and other ways to contact me. For my assets, I will need to gather

The idea behind my website is that I want to make a place for myself and the members of my game development team to post creative works. Viewers will land on the home page, which features a chronological list of all things posted to the website, starting with the most recent. Viewers will also be able to go to the Team tab, which has a bio for the members of the studio. There will also be a tab for downloads (though I am thinking of splitting this into 'Games' and 'Gadgets', in case we end up making non-game related programs), visual art, audio art, and text posts. There will also be an About tab, which describes the purpose of the website and the studio. I wanted to create a website that captures all of my favorite things which ranges from favorite artists, movies, vacation spots, foods, and more. By adding links with descriptions of each of my favorites, I hope to inspire people to try new things by looking at my site. To bring diversity to my page, I plan on the home page to just have pictures of the things/people/places I plan to describe more into depth once you click on the picture. After clicking on the picture, you will be lead to a more indepth description of it and hopefully provide intriguing thoughts.

Because I want to enter the field of journalism so that I can educate people through my writing, I absolutely want to make an impact on those who view my project. My goal is to give people the background they need to see why we collectively need to protect the world, give them tips on how to make a direct impact themselves, and link them with organizations so that they may either continue their own research or contribute to their missions. I want to create a website that is basically a little scrapbook or journal for the people in my life right now that I care about very much and give a shoutout to why I care about them so much. I currently miss home very much, and I just got off the phone with my dad and so fresh-out of that emotional moment, I want to make something that I am passionate about, and by attaching my emotions to this project, I know I will do a good job. My main argument is to simply have a cool website that both shows my knowledge from this class, as well as have something to show the people in my life that will make them excited about the project as well! A little juvenile in motivation, I know, but after midterms, I kind of just want to make something need and impassioned. The images will be left-aligned, and the size is to be determined. Furthermore, the blurb of why I care about these people and who they are to me will be on the 2/3 right-hand side, as shown in my sketch. If I can figure out how to do it, I would love to have happy or soothing music playing in the background of my website.

For my visual argument assignment, I created a poster addressing climate change and need for an increase in sustainability efforts. I would like to continue this awareness in my web design. I would like to create a central hub with lots of different information, external links, and tips. I want to keep a lot of the information fairly simple, and have easy steps towards sustainability, so that readers will feel that it is something they can accomplish. Sketch The home page will display the title at the top: "Things we all should know" and the 5 different pages on the website. It will have an about section to explain to the reader the basic problem of environmental issues and then what I hope the reader takes away from the page/what the page is meant for. Then I will include an image of the visual argument I made last unit. The second page is the "The Facts" page. It will be simply a list of alarming facts/data and the sources the data came from. The "The Solution" page will be a paragraph on the general concepts on how to limit environmental derogation, government impact/regulation and emerging technologies. I would like to have images of these regulations, technologies, and concepts and then have links to external pages about these. The "At Home" section will be realistic simple changes that individuals can make at home. It will be a paragraph and list combo. The last section "Organizations for Change" will be 3 paragraphs- one on organizations working for change/places to donate, another on which popular companies are bad for the environment and which are good, last paragraph on fun sustainable companies/new products to buy for the environment.

A big focus of mine over the past year has been self-improvement. Whether that’s in terms of physical health, mental health, productivity, or social consciousness and involvement, I’m just really focused on trying to be the best version of myself. While I’ve got a ways to go, I do think I’ve capitalized on this quarantine time and made the absolute best out of it. I’ve made a lot of self-improvement and, while I haven’t been perfect, have managed to avoid pitfalls in these areas that I’ve seen many others succumb to. My other idea was to make a portfolio of my musical work, but honestly this feels like it is more personal and has more heart, and when choosing a subject or topic for a project, I think the thing that has the most heart and passion in it is always the best idea to roll with.

I think that a blog format would be best for this site, with pieces that blend personal narrative and informative, non-fiction writing. Hopefully my sketches illustrate this more clearly.

I have always been meaning to start on a portfolio website for myself, therefore that is what I plan on doing to help me with future job applications. The portfolio will include a homepage that shows an overview of myself as well as pictures and different pathways to various web pages. These web pages include a link to my resume, I link to a project page that shows the things that I have and have been working on, as well as a link to an about me section and of course a link back to the homepage at which you will start at. Some images that I plan on including involve pictures of me as well as some other scenic pictures to add some spice. I'll guide readers by including very clear cut links to the different pages of my sight as well as a well organized home page.

For my website portfolio, I would like to build a site that displays all of the upcoming volunteering opportunities available at a club I am highly involved in. On the landing page, I plan to include a short description of the website’s purpose, followed by a “Past Volunteering Events” section that has pictures and a short description from past events (possibly making each event’s title clickable to go to a new page that has more pictures from the event a more explanation). Then, I am thinking about adding two thinner columns to either side of this “Past events" section, the right side being an “Upcoming events” section that lists linkable titles of upcoming volunteering opportunities that lead to pages with more information about each individual opportunity. For the left column, I am not set on anything specific yet but I am thinking about placing a quote there about helping others, or maybe a “contact us” type of section. Additionally, near the top of the website I want to create a bar with clickable buttons that display “About the club,” “upcoming volunteer opportunities,” and “contact us.” I would purposely put some of the information in more than one location of the website, so it can be navigated more easily (for example, the upcoming events would be listed by title on the right of the landing page, but have a more extensive scrollable section by clicking the upcoming events button). Also, each upcoming event would have an “interested? sign up here” or contact us type of input section.
I find that at the current moment (and long before COVID-19 inhibited usual in person volunteering), it is difficult to find out about volunteering needs that this club could be of assistance with, and any logistics are hard to come by and deter people from signing up. I hope for this website to make volunteering details more available and accessible at any time, as well as easily updatable, so as to encourage people to engage more in the community.

Assets needed: – pictures and details from past volunteering events (can be gotten from past volunteering coordinators) – details on upcoming volunteer opportunities (can also be gotten from past volutneering coordinators) – official logo of the club
