I want to follow a person as they get up, get ready for the day, leave the house to go to daily tasks, the return to home etc. I feel as if often times, many people enter an "autopilot" where they go about their day and don't pay attention to what is happening in the moment, but rather get droned into thoughts, work, etc.; we sometimes even choose to do this by isolating ourselves in headphones. We're always stuck in this loop until a cutting moment, whether that be a jarring sound, a thought provoking word, or something as simple as a deep breath, makes you realize where you are, what you are doing, why you're doing it, only to fall back into a daze as the day passes by. I'd like to capture that, hearing the surrounding noise fading in and out as our awareness of who we are varies throughout the day.

I plan to compose an audio narrative that captures the a student arriving home to their apartment after a long day of studying. However, the student still has more homework / studying to do before the next day. So, the student pulls their computer out of their bag and sets it on a table. Upon powering up the computer, lighting strikes, and the student is transported from the physical world into the digital one. In the digital world the student can see out of the glass screen of their computer, and begin tapping it. After a while of tapping, the student sees their roommate walk by - it’s the middle of the night and the roommate does not notice the tapping - and begin to tap more furiously. Then a wisp of electric whizzes by the student and the student begins chasing it. They run and run until they pass out from exhaustion. As soon as their body hits the ground, the student awakes in their bed the next morning.

"All Nighter" For my audio narrative project I am trying to represent a college kid cramming a night of studying before a big exam the next day. The environment I am trying to create will just be a college kids room. The story will surround the college kid at their desk and follow them throughout their night of studying. It will detail what an “all-nighter” looks or more so, sounds like. I want to add a kind of suspenseful theme to represent the feeling of stress the college student is feeling while studying through the night until it reaches morning.

My audio narrative project will be representing the environment of my kitchen when my roommate and I are preparing dinner. Dialogue about the meal itself will be part of the story. The other part of the story will be a conversation about how our days went.

For my audio project, I want to capture the mellow sounds of a family returning home one-by-one after a long day at school/work/running errands. The plan is to feature three characters: a mother, father, and a young son/daughter. I wanted to draw on sounds that were familiar to my home towards that time of day, which includes
As more characters enter the scene, the house will start to sound busier, with the sounds of all three characters overlapping, until dinnertime, where the activity of each household member is the same and the audio begins to focus in again.

For my audio narrative, I am planning on doing a scene in NYC. I was thinking of having someone on their way to a meeting, but the NYC traffic is making them late. So, in the background, there would be cars honking, the sound of car doors opening and closing, maybe yelling from the taxi driver for other cars to move out of the way. The ending would be the person making it to their meeting just on time.

Proposal For my audio narrative project, I would like to mimic the 2022 World Series Game 3, where the Houston Astros played at the Philadelphia Phillies. In this game, the Phillies won at home 7-0. I am someone who likes sports and have been to many sporting events before so I am familiar with many of the sounds that are present, and I think this would be a fun topic to do for this project. However, if I feel that this topic is a little too difficult, I will probably just switch to something about the daily life of a college student.
Sounds -Someone yelling and selling popcorn and peanuts (record myself) -Crowd cheering/chanting (maybe find online or have a friend record it) -Crack of the bat (Find online) -Umpires yelling ball, strike, safe, out (Probably can record myself, might be able to find online) -Music (National Anthem, take me out to the ballgame, YMCA, Dancing on my own)- (Find the music online) -Announcers (saying it's the top of the 3rd inning...)- (record myself)

My objective for this assignment is for the listener to visualize, and maybe even relate to, the chaos that can precede an exam. I want my audio narrative to resemble the six essential plot elements: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. I plan to introduce my audio narrative with sounds of restless sleeping followed by a harsh alarm clock. Then, I will use various sounds to portray a sense of anxiety and disorder in the rising action. I want to use a repurposed asset of a professor handing out an exam and instructing students to begin, to portray the climax of the narrative. Next, I will record a loud deep breath out followed by the clicking of a pen and sound of writing to signify the start to the exam and end of the story. I aspire to make each element of the story apparent, while still forming one cohesive story.

My idea for my audio narrative project will be a day in the life. I want the listener to understand what I typically do on a day to day basis, like getting up and making breakfast, attending classes, or going to the gym. I'll even incorporate some sounds of how I spend my free time or me doing homework.

Proposal For my audio narrative, I am planning on running through my morning routine/walk to class but in a sort of futuristic world. This idea is kind of inspired by the movie Her, there will be a virtual assistant speaking throughout the routine and assisting me along the way. I’ll get ready, walk down Forbes, etc., but it’ll be condensed and not real-time. All will be well for most of the audio, until the end when reality gets confusing and the virtual assistant's voice gets wonky and morphs into a human voice. Listeners will realize I overslept, was dreaming, and now my roommate is waking me in a frenzy.

Proposal My audio narrative aims to present me in the kitchen cooking my favorite meal: penne alla vodka. To set the scene, I plan to capture the sounds of all of my pre-cooking kitchen rituals: opening the blinds, lighting a candle, and connecting my phone to my speaker to play soothing music, all parts of being in the kitchen which make cooking such a relaxing and enjoyable activity for me. Then, I will proceed with preparing the food: boiling water, putting in the pasta, chopping vegetables for my sauce, making the sauce in the pan, etc. The purpose of this narrative isn’t just to capture the act of someone cooking dinner. I want it to encapsulate my love for cooking by being personal to me in subtle ways such as taking my time while cooking, humming to the music, and showing my pre-cooking kitchen rituals as described above.

I wanted to do a story that would allow me to use different sounds and play around with layering them. So the story I came up with is a murder story, title of which is not yet decided. The story starts off in a house where three friends live. One of them murders one of the friends and takes the help of the other friend to bury the body. I plan to start the audio from a point after the murder happened and do it in such a way that even though the audience don't hear the killing, the initial character conversations narrate what had happened. After this, the two characters roll the body in a carpet and carry it to the car. The car is driven to a nearby forest. The characters carry the body out of the car, dig the ground and bury the body. Right when they are about to get back in the car, they hear the police sirens and one of the characters says "shit" (or "oh no" depending on the language that can we used in this project) and the audio ends abruptly, creating an effect of suspense in the audience, making them think what might have happened.
For my audio narrative, I plan to do a scene that takes place at a public pool. I want to put the listener in my place as a lifeguard and show the different sounds that catch my attention throughout the day, as well as the overwhelming atmosphere on a crowded day. The narrative starts off with me taking a lifeguard’s place so they can go on their break, and they tell me to keep an eye on a kid who looks like they are struggling to swim. I plan to include situations where I have to talk to someone about their behavior and conversations I hear through our walkie-talkies and across the pool deck. At the end, I want to include what our protocol is for when someone starts drowning, and take the listener along with me as I jump in to pull that person out of the water.
ambient pool noises - stock walkie talkie beeping - stock talking through wt - record whistles - stock & record rattling of whistle - record water movement - stock & record splashes - stock & record cars passing by - record diving board bouncing - stock walking footsteps - record running footsteps - stock conversation between guards - record kids yelling in bg - stock movement when sitting and standing - record
Proposal For my audio narrative, I wanted to pursue something that is familiar to me. I also wanted to choose a scene where the sounds are distinct to that location. Because of these two self-imposed criteria, I plan to recreate the experience of going to the gym and beginning a workout. To begin the narrative, I will start with checking in at the gym: saying "hello" to the worker checking people in, swiping my ID card, being told "have a nice workout" by the worker. The entire background of this narrative will be gym sounds, which I will record. These sounds will grow louder as I enter the gym. Then, the scene will move to unzipping my backpack, putting my shoes and lacing them up, then sliding my bag into a locker. My next idea is to recreate the sound of putting in headphones and listening to a workout playlist. The only difficulty with this idea is finding music that will not violate any fair use or copyright laws. If I can find music that will be fairly available, I would tune down the sound of background gym noises. I also plan on including the sound of someone asking if I'm using some weights or a machine, quietly at first because my music is so loud, then louder after I cut out the sound of my music.

Proposal For my audio narrative I will be putting the listener through a short grocery store visit. The story will begin with the listener and their friend exiting their apartment and getting into an uber. While in the Uber, the driver and the 2 main characters will exchange light conversation, and music will play quietly. They will enter the grocery store, shop for a short bit (getting eggs, milk, and maybe some chips), and checkout. The audio narrative will end with them exiting the store. I think the biggest and most important element will be city background noise getting louder/quieter depending on the setting the character is currently in. Assets Dialog of the 2 main characters, uber driver, cashier, and any passerby conversations -- Recording City background noises (construction, cars, talking, walk sign, ambulance) -- stock, maybe some recording on forbes Car door closing -- Stock Cashier beep -- stock, if necessary can record in target Radio music -- create with FL studio Footsteps -- stock (can record if necessary) Apartment door -- record Car swerve -- stock Grocery sliding door -- stock (can record)
For this audio project I want to create a fictional piece that tells a mostly silent yet immersive story. The story will take place in some type of peaceful meadow, situated near some trickling water source, and will feature somewhat fairytale like sounds like soft music and the sound of butterfly wings. The audio story will start out with someone just casually relaxing in the meadow, probably reading a book, when all of a sudden they hear a noise (something running past them) in the distance. They will then get up to investigate the noise, muttering quietly to themselves and then come across some type of food which they will proceed to eat and then enter a state of delirium. The idea for this is not necessarily unique since I was mostly inspired by Alice in Wonderland, but I think it will be a cool way to play around with sound to create an immersive audio experience for the listener. Here is my asset list:
Proposal For my audio narrative, I'd like to create a soundscape similar to one that you'd listen or hear of when going in for a dentist's visit. The story will start with you entering the room greeting the receptionist and confirming your appointment. You sitting in the waiting room listening to music, flipping through pages on magazines, and shuffling in your chair. Your finally admitted into your specific room and then a routine dental check-up is done on you, sounds of drills, water running, murmured conversations happen around you with you dosing off and finally waking up and getting the getting the overview of the procedure done and scheduling your next appointment fading out into the end of the audio narrative.

Proposal For this project, I wanted to record a day of my life as a student. Including waking up, showering, getting food, commuting, and doing homework...etc. Often times we forget to see the beauty in everyday routine and I had hoped to capture some of it and translate it into this project. I've been doing a bunch of recording on my own to make for a more authentic experience. I haven't thought of any stock sound effects/music that I would use yet. However, I'm sure I'll find some to implement in a way that will enhance the experience.

In my audio narrative I plan to have it be about a snippet of a bland day in the life of an average college student. It consists of them walking into their apartment starting to type on their computer and whatever other assorted menial tasks. A bit into it however they hear a loud sound and are transported into a sort of distorted negative world as a mysterious voice guides them to some sort of important task.
Write a brief proposal for your audio narrative project. What place or environment will you try to represent? What story will you try to tell – or, at least, what is the premise (starting point) of that story?
See the full range of thought-questions in the assignment prompt for brainstorming strategies, as well as the more extended loop writing prompts from lesson 04, plus the Parachute Prompts at the bottom of the assignment page if you're stuck.
NB: I am asking you to include a prospective assets list, i.e. a table of the sounds you think you'll need and where you might be able to source them. You can choose to include that assets list here or to place it as a file in your repository (either directly in README.md or in a separate assets.md), which would help you more easily update and track changes as you fill in the real sources.
Either way, please include a link here to your repository, making it easier to find when we get to group work.
