Lean front stuttering on some HD content #65

Closed secureitall closed 11 months ago

secureitall commented 1 year ago

Im having an issue with mainly sports on UK channel 4 HD (F1) and football on ITV and BBC other hd content seems to be mostly fine.

From the mythtv forum you asked for a sample video

But i cant upload it here so https://siaholdings.com/mythtvissue.mp4

As you will see some playback is fine but as soon as the cars start moving i get a stutter etc.

Thanks

What I actually want is a copy of the recording file xxxx.ts from MythTV, to debug the problem. If the recording is too big an extract is fine For example to extract the first 100 MB: dd bs=1MB count=100 if=3819_20160207020000.ts of=extracted_with_dd.ts If the problem is not in the first 100 MB, but is between 300 MB and 400 MB dd bs=1MB count=100 skip=300 if=3819_20160207020000.ts of=extracted_with_dd.ts Check the resulting extract with vlc to ensure you got the correct part.

I don't know how long that file is. I downloaded the first 4 GB, which is one and a half hours of it. The part that you showed in your video of the tv screen is at about 36 minutes into this video. I will test it on my android tv devices and let you know what I find. You can delete it from your server.

It runs perfectly smoothly on leanfront on my system. This is using an ONN google TV box ($20 from Walmart), connected using WiFi to the backend which is also on WiFi. I took a video to show you. It is best to download the video before watching, when I watched it through google it was stopping and buffering in google. https://photos.app.goo.gl/mgTpYLX1obsaq7kY7 What android TV device are you using? Perhaps it is under-powered or maybe your network is slow?

It may be the device it’s a fire cube 2nd gen

I wondered if there was any settings I could change to lighten the load on the sire cube.

I was also considering buying newer ones (alas I need to keep the interface for kids, girlfriend etc.)

I was also then going to try to use the old ones to record from now tv for the sport onto the myth backend

I tested it on a firestick 4K. The action is smooth but the picture is interlaced, which shows horizontal lines across everything that moves. Perhaps your TV or fire cube is trying to deinterlace and that causes the problem.

We have interlaced broadcasts in the USA and I have never noticed this before. There may be something about the recording that causes the fire stick not to recognize the interlace and thus not to deinterlace.

Oh ok. Other stuff plays fine it's just f1 and football. I currently use normal myth fe for hd content and your fe for everything else cos it is just better. They are connected on wired gigabit lan but from what your saying I need new fe hardware? James WilsonSent from my mobile

I suggest you also check your TV or test the fire cube on another TV. I have a TV with an option called "Smooth Motion Effect" that actually does the opposite, causing an effect like you are seeing.

Hi Peter

I have 2 Tv’s and 2 firecubes. Both have this behaviour.

One is an old HD 1080p Plasma the other is a new Samsung 4k tv

Id agree with the tv settings as I had issues with the Samsung on all content so have turned all those things off.

All other content plays fine on the cubes, 4k content from Netflix, sky (now tv) bbc iplayer and even cloud gaming.

Mythtv front end for android plays the content fine but standard def looks awful on big tv’s

I currently use mythtv android front end for HD stuff and your app for standard def.

It only seems to be sport that is affected. The adverts etc play fine on channel 4 but as sson as the action starts ie cars on track it starts to look like its skipping fames.

In your opinion then you think I need a newer fire stick/cube?
