State of MATE 1.5+ support #8

I'm happily running mate-deskbar-applet on MATE 1.4.0 now. But I just learned while trying to sort out OpenSUSE packaging issues [1] that 1.5 and later will break it. I haven't checked yet how much, but I would like to ask if this issue is known already and if there are already plans to address it. Nelson Marques said in that thread that upstream can always be contacted to ask for guiding.

Thank you for the heads-up, stefano-k says a solution for python applets is still being evaluated.

Meanwhile I was pointed to http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/docs:devel:mate-panel regarding how to migrate to MATE 1.5+. Already had a look?
