Can we fix typo in current-exhibition? No dash. And can we make the landing page show title a real title, and add dummy copy to the show page?

Introducing Document Online [http://www.documentjournal.com/]
There's a new corner of the web for the curious.Featuring a dynamic mobile-first design and functionality, and introducing daily material, the site is a sanctum for visual beauty and critical contemplation, where questions on society, style, creativity, and technology's breathless advances are explored outside of the web’s daily churn.
Some of our first features will give you a sense of the scope and the scale of what's to come. In appreciation of The Eternal Peter Hujar [http://www.documentjournal.com/2018/01/nan-goldin-dev-hynes-david-velasco-on-the-eternal-peter-hujar/], we gathered a panoply of New York City’s steady cultural voices—Nan Goldin, Vince Aletti, Devonté Hynes—to praise the late photographer’s timeless work. Elsewhere, to make sense of a 2017 of uncertainty, newfound purpose, and the digital accretions of lives lived in The Energy of a New Moment [http://www.documentjournal.com/2018/02/the-energy-of-a-new-moment-2017-in-artifacts-michael-stipe-eileen-myles-jarvis-cocker-miranda-july/], Document’s digital editor Nathan Taylor Pemberton asked Paola Antonelli, Eileen Myles, Jarvis Cocker, Michael Stipe, and Miranda July—over a dozen artists, writers, musicians, and curators in total—to share just one artifact that summarized an inexplicable moment. Guest editors will grace the site with their curatorial flavors as when Francesco Vezzoli draws our attention to the generational differences of creatives in a series of interviews starting first with the inimitable Silvia Venturi Fendi and Delfina Delettrez.
Form and style, as you could imagine, are important to us. As such the site is broken down in respect to this. Above The Fold [http://www.documentjournal.com/category/above-the-fold/] will present readers with digestible, off-the-cuff daily ruminations on current events and perspectives, and interviews with the titans and emerging voices across fashion, art, culture, film, music, and the political sphere. At Large [http://www.documentjournal.com/category/at-large/] will feature writing that tunnels for some kind of measure of the new history we currently find ourselves. What do the aesthetics and style, social movements, and cultural trends say of this time, of the distance we’ve traveled, and yet to go? Documented [http://www.documentjournal.com/category/documented/] will be a repository for the best visual culture makers of this moment, while Fashion Portfolios [http://www.documentjournal.com/category/fashion-portfolio/] will exemplify our deep appreciation for compelling style and visual editorials. And, perhaps most significantly, Document thrives in Conversations [http://www.documentjournal.com/category/conversations/], a timeless section of cultural voices merging in glorious polyphony.
Document Online boasts the complete offerings from the first five years of Document (sold out in print), which includes contributions from Inez & Vinoodh, Juergen Teller, Mert & Marcus, Stephen Shore, Grace Coddington, Olivier Rizzo, Joe McKenna, Ryan McGinley, Hedi Slimane, Jamie Hawkesworth, Craig McDean, Richard Prince, Sterling Ruby, Collier Schorr, Kara Walker, Richard Bush, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Rei Kawakubo, John Waters, Hilton Als, and many more.
Back in the land of print, we're excited to announce that Document No. 12 (for Spring/Summer) will arrive on newsstands on April 5, 2018—our biggest issue to date!

Nick Vogelson

Document Journal Issue No. 12 S/S 2018 Available Worldwide
7 limited edition covers, 600+ pages,
and a book by Riccardo Tisci and Pieter Hugo
Document Journal presents its largest issue to date, featuring six hundred pages and seven limited edition covers by Willy Vanderperre, Olivier Rizzo, Hedi Slimane, Mario Sorrenti, Craig McDean, Grace Coddington, Richard Bush, and Document’s fashion director Sarah Richardson, Édouard Louis by Alasdair McLellan, and exclusive artwork by Lorna Simpson. The issue is also paired with a limited edition book made in collaboration with Riccardo Tisci, Pieter Hugo, and Nike.
This season includes fascinating exchanges between luminaries from the worlds of literature, art, computer science, fashion, activism, music, and television, including cover star Édouard Louis, Zadie Smith, Patrisse Khan-Cullors, Asia Kate Dillon, William Klein, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Luca Guadagnino, Natacha Ramsay-Levi, Fereshteh Forough, Barbara Liskov, Alessandro Sartori, Kris Van Assche, Yoann Lemoine, Luke and Lucie Meier, and Anders Christian Madsen.
(clockwise, from top left: Asia Kate Dillion and Patrisse Khan-Cullors by Andreas Laszlo Konrath, Luca Guadagnino by Willy Vanderperre, Natacha Ramsay-Levi by Tom Ordoyno, and Édouard Louis by Alasdair McLellan)
EXCERPTS
Novelist Zadie Smith on the crux of identity:
“The restrictions of identity are neither about race nor gender nor even sexuality, but the narrowness of experience. If I had to rely on my experience, as it is at the moment, that is, a middle-aged woman mostly confined to the house with small children, I think I would go mad.”
Novelist Édouard Louis on the power of shame:
“Shame is an important and beautiful tool, in a way. The problem for me is that so many writers write without shame. It makes me have doubts about literature.”
Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors on creative survival:
“My work is very experimental and improvisational. For me, Black Lives Matter is one big creative experiment. You can’t have blackness without creativity. To survive this place for 500 years, that’s the embodiment of creativity! It has also personally helped me to survive. It helped me see the possibility of something else.”
Actor Asia Kate Dillon on an artist’s responsibility:
“I think labels can be really harmful and damaging, but when we have the autonomy to label ourselves it can be really freeing. I think that giving people the opportunity to engage with their own intelligence is part of an artist’s responsibility.”
Director Luca Guadagnino on freedom of choice:
“I have really never done anything I did not want to do. I have always had the choice to say ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ and I choose to say yes for specific reasons. Can I do it and believe in it, or not? If I do believe in a project, I would do it for free. If I don’t believe in it, you could cover me with gold, but I’m still not going to do it.”
(Left to right: The World Gay Rodeo Finals by Luke Gilford and modern modes of contemplation by Laurence Ellis)
ARTICLES & ARTIST PORTFOLIOS
Elsewhere inside the issue, Document had the pleasure of accompanying photographer Luke Gilford as he explored the new American West at the World Gay Rodeo Finals in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as told to writer Mark Smith, and traversed the globe with photographer Laurence Ellis in search of modern modes of contemplation, while writer Linda Heuman reflected on the benefits of this search from within. In an exploration of technology’s influence over our well-being, writer Cody Delistraty explores the future of sex in an age of instant gratification, and writer Katherine Cross asks whether artificial intelligence is friend or foe. Legendary magazine editor Leonard Abrams also provides an exclusive first-hand account of his decade long reign at the East Village Eye, the cultural conduit of New York City’s creative scene in the 1980s that cast a spotlight on visionaries such as Cookie Mueller, Glenn O’Brien, and RuPaul. Exclusive and original artist portfolios from the issue include Joan Jonas, Howardena Pindell, Katharina Grosse, and Lorna Simpson.
(Blinking, by Lorna Simpson)
