Windowed mode not resetting #136

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start game
2. go into options
3. user interface options
4. set display to any option but the default
5. save and exit (ctrl-x)
6. restart game with same character
7. game is still in full screen mode

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
based on the descriptions i would expect that the windowed mode would take 
effect upon restart. 

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
sangband v1.0.1.169 on windows XP

Please provide any additional information below.

Is see the same thing with 1.0.2b1 on my Vista laptop.  No problem on my XP 
desktop for the same version.

I can't reproduce this on XP.  I'll test in Win7 at some point.

Workaround: While Sangband is not running, open config.txt in editor and change 
Display Mode = 2 or 3 (2=windowed large map and 3=windowed, subwindows)

Hrm.. i checked my location, and my config.txt is blank. I started up the game 
again, created a char, and then exited with ctrl-x, and still nothing. I wonder 
if something on my system is preventing me from writing the config file back 
out.

Certainly if it isn't being (re)written, that could be the source of your 
problem.  Do your characters save properly?

It appears as though my characters save properly. I can load them in and there 
are as i left them, same dungeon level and everything.
