Many players don't like that spell resistance is essentially a required skill.
Options:
1) Bundle SR in with leveling like hit points already are.
2) Bundle some portion of SR in with leveling, but keep the skill separate and
somewhat cheaper.
3) Provide alternative sources of saving throw boosts.
#2 seems like the only tractable solution to me. #1 reduces character options
too much, and #3 seems difficult to balance.
Also, the cost of spell resistance should be reduced to 3 from 6 in order to
compensate for its reduced effect.
