Change license to BSD #21

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Snappy looks like a great idea and we'd be interested in using it in Mozilla,
unfortunately the Apache license is not compatible with the current version of
MPL. What are the chances of snappy switching to BSD or another MPL-compatible
license?

Apache license is actually one of the things we really like about Snappy. If
you must change it, maybe go with something hyper-compatible?

Change is too strong of a word. A dual license should work too.

What do you want to use Snappy for? Dual-licensing can be a bit tricky, so we
generally try to avoid it.

I've been planning to compressing various caches in mozilla to reduce disc IO
lag. Snappy seems like it will fit the bill perfectly.

I'd like to use it in the Linux kernel together with zram (which currently uses
LZO). For that, AFAIK, it needs a GPL2-compatible license.

OK, we've changed the license to a BSD-type license. r20 contains the code
updates.

Many files still have a header that says "Apache License". Please update all
files. Thank you.
