How to use initial image?

Congratulations on creating a platform for us Intel Mac users--I tried many installation walkthroughs with no joy until I came across this. Super straightforward and functional.

So sorry to ask this as a total newbie to Stable Diffusion, but in your demo_web.py implementation, what is initial image for, and how do you use it? The first time I loaded it, the output was the same as the initial image. I tried painting with the green brush, and the output was still the initial image.

Try to increase the strength parameter. If it's too tiny the model won't change the initial image much.
