I'm going to try to build something out for this with the following spec:

Indicator creation menu (user sets label, color)
Ability to link indicator to component (user selects indicator type and component to attach it to)
Indicator hover state (show indicator label and component name)
Indicator click event (select component)
Show/hide indicators option

I think only the first two are truly necessary for this, but I would love to hear feedback and other perspectives on this.

Update: hover states and click events aren't possible with the figma plugin API :(
