Chinese Punctuation not full width in Adobe Applications #117

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open Photoshop CS6 or CC 2014 or any other adobe product
2. Type any full width punctuation mark (,。「」...etc)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
normal Chinese text take up the space of full width characters fine, but the
punctuation marks are not full width, please see the screenshot attached. the
punctuation marks should take up the same space as a normal Chinese character,
but instead they take up less space than a full width character but more space
than a half width English character, very strange indeed!

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Noto Sans T Chinese (tried all versions of Noto Sans and Source Sans) / Mac OS
X 10.9.4

Please provide any additional information below.

This issue is related to this one reported in the Source Han Sans repository on
GitHub: https://github.com/adobe-fonts/source-han-sans/issues/37

Basically, this is a side-effect of having kerning on by default. If the
selected font includes the 'kern' (or 'vkrn' in vertical writing) POS feature,
the 'palt' (or 'vpal' in vertical writing) GPOS feature, if present in the
font, is turned on. Simply turn off kerning, and the punctuation will display
as expected, meaning as full-width glyphs.
