Noto Sans Sinhala- Letter Na Enhancement #59

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
THis is a design issue.

Letter Danthaja Na (0DB1) seems absurd. Cheked with around 10 native readers
and all seem to notice this slight issue.

The head part is slightly slanted

I have attached a comparison to a few widely used good fonts.

I have drawn alternative shapes. The intersection of strokes has moved to the
right, making the "nose" larger and rounded. Please let me know if it is better
or not.

Hi Jelle,

I have got confirmation from script experts that the after version is better.
Please move forward with it.

Fifth letter from the right in the initial comparison seems to be more ideal.
The slant still seems to be present in the after version.

Added a second alternative version, which adds another step to the change. I
hope this will do. The font that is compared with looks like Malithi, which has
very different top vowel construction. Noto has to keep a relative wider top
stroke for the two vowels to stay clear.

After 2 dose it !
I agree with you about top part construction.. But there is a certain slanted
appearance left in the head. Which i think was intentional as you mentioned.

You only changed the nose right? Or have you revised the head part as well?

Thanks! and sorry about delay in response.. (BTW, yep, he Na next to Noto is
Malithi )

The image shows the difference between the first variant (light blue
background) and the second. I assume "dose it" is a positive response... the
medicine that provides the cure.
