Anti-virus false positives #4

Closed betamos closed 1 year ago

betamos commented 2 years ago

There are a few false positives in some antivirus programs, such as Bitdefender. Payload does NOT contain any malware, spyware or adware.

See https://github.com/tauri-apps/tauri/issues/4749 for details.

If you run into any issues with antivirus flagging payload, please share in this issue. If you are having trouble installing payload, disable realtime-protection in your antivirus software and try again.

All false-positives are now fixed, except for one in payload-agent.exe:

This is a known issue with MaxSecure and Golang binaries.

I tried submitting a false positive report but haven't received a response.

Well, MaxSecure didn't respond to the false positive report, it's not just me either - it seems like a common issue.

Off topic: As a form of poetic irony, MaxSecure got their own software flagged by another antivirus company, and had to report false positives. (Insert spiderman meme)

Anyway, antivirus apps use hueristics, and they get things wrong. Playing whack-a-mole to get on a whitelist is a game of diminishing returns, so I'll close this out.

I stand by Payload with my name and reputation. I have code signatures on macOS and Windows that are tied to my real-world identity. I'm happy to answer any questions if you're concerned with the safety of Payload. Please see payload.app for contact details.
