After implementing the Odd-even rule for cars (Refer to d4c2697d35a1f57f), there has been a many fold increase in the usage of Delhi Metro. This is a positive development as more people using public transport is better for the environment.
But using Metro between peak hours has become a public safety hazard, as the number of people using the Metro is far greater than the number at which Metro can operate smoothly. This generally leads to longer queues, unruly behavior (As there is conflict of interest because everyone wants to get on the Metro first) and increased chances of stampedes.
Even though there hasn't been any incident yet but are any steps being taken to reduce the possibility of any unfortunate event from happening?
Also, increasing the frequency of Metro and adding extra coaches to each Metro are short term solutions for easing the crowds. Are there any long term plans to solve the issue of over-crowding? (because neither can we have Metro entering stations every 5 seconds nor Metro trains which have 100 coaches each in the future)
