just had a py3.5 issue not present in 3.6, so seems worth trying to cover version issues

Coverage remained the same at 97.861% when pulling a59d546e0598f1cbde65cc1c53d4acfcde637f07 on python3.7 into dbd2c342b78f0f82d39c1de8c588cafb107d5dca on master.
