File sharing (restricted to student access) #42

Students already have sharepoint and onedrive access through their office 365 accounts. There is already a student folder on the sharepoint. Should, rather than a google drive integration and EASE authentication for access, we set up our own subdirectory in the student sharepoint folder?

(apologies if this is an incorrect use of the issue feature, I am a new user of github)

I think this is a great idea. While it means that the platform won't be completely independent of the School of Maths, I believe it is far better than any alternatives that we have considered. After all, if anyone wants to change it to a separate drive later, they're more than welcome to do so.

I believe that it is currently not possible to add files to the Students section in SharePoint. We would therefore need to create another section, where all students would have access and could also upload files.

I also found this. I looked it up and edit privileges on SharePoint can be set at the folder level, so we could have a folder within the student SharePoint. I am not sure who manages this, I imagine it is IT within the SoM so I will be making a request regarding this later this week.

It may be more sensible to set up a distinct SharePoint, though. I do think with microsoft there is a useful option of "anyone within my organisation". This is because UoE students from outside SoM might not have access to the Maths student folder, does anyone know if this is the case? This creates a distinct challenge of transferring ownership/management of the SharePoint folder year-on-year.
