I love the second idea ! The only problem is that there is no clean way to slow down time without breaking redstone that I know of, I'll look into it anyway since it would be a really cool mechanic.
Maybe rather than slowing down the ticks to make a single night last longer, you could use the set time function to make the night loop (eg, once the clock reaches 22000 or so, have it set itself back to 14000) Once the kill count has been reached, then the night completes normally.
Yeah something like that could work, I'll have a play around a bit later today if I get chance.
Would it be possible to add an option to extend the night for a blood moon? Or possibly even an option to have the night last until a certain number of mobs are killed? The latter would get people out to do something about it, rather than just cowering in their houses.
