Ah I used the wrong term. They might also be called margin notes such as this:
Margin notes or "info boxes" are the terms I'm most familiar with. I very much want these for the book, to allow us to digress a bit further without disrupting flow.
Mm, looking thru this, it seems a preexisting solution may be the best; perhaps https://github.com/edwardtufte/tufte-css or something similar.

Edit: On second thought maybe a custom one inspired by existing solutions would work best. Hard to tell.
Add support to hold info in side boxes or side bars you see in textbooks.
