The word "Governance" #1

We seek views on the word "Governance" (As shown in the README.md)

To us, initial contributors, the word “governance” does not imply that BGIN aims at imposing top down control to any activities, technologies or standards but rather means that BGIN aims at providing a venue and process to contribute to them through the fully bottom up discussions and consensus making processes. With this concept, at the inaugural meeting, initial contributors decided to use this word in our name.

However, at the same time, we recognize that “governance” could give opposite impression to some readers. Thus, we would like to seek comments and views if we can or should continue to use this word in our name.

This means that we have decided to seek consensus through bottom up discussion on this point as well.

We look forward to hearing your views and comments here.

One option might be adding the concept of governance described in the above in Genesis or TOR for clarity and keeping the term in the name.

Just want to add a note for anyone coming straight to this issue and who hasn’t read the docs yet - the objective of this organization is to research how the Internet’s multistakeholder governance model can be adapted to cryptocurrency and decentralized finance, and then to disseminate that knowledges and best practices globally.

There are some differences that need to be worked out in the adaptation, hence a focused and organized effort is needed. This is something Adam Back and others have been advocating since the early days of Bitcoin, and this initiative aims to continue that effort.

However, as we all know, naming things is hard. We evaluated many different options for naming this organization before settling on the current name, and are still open to feedback from the community on how best to communicate the organization’s objective in its name.
