Guitar tabs: extra.tablature #5

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Generate tablature in text format. The hardest part is probably finding out
which fingering to use. This functionality could also be used in a graphic
representation of a guitar (to show chords, etc.).

A Tablature class could be a subclass of Track, where every Note can have a
'string'
attribute which is used for fingering.

Here are the tables in csv. Done in Google Docs with
=ImportHTML("http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stringed_instrument_tunings
", "table", x) where x is 2..22. Not all of them are precise enough for us to be
usable, but there is a lot of stuff there nonetheless.

The issue tracker seems to mess up the format, but I already exported
everything in
to a python file. Will add a string tuning module shortly.

extra.tunings modules was added in 0.4.1.1. The StringTuning class has a
find_frets
method and should probably have a find_fingering method as well.

find_fingering method was added (issue #48).

Now what?

Tablature can either be a class or a module. It should have a tuning attribute
and
the from_Note, from_NoteContainer, etc. functions to convert to ascii.

If a Note object has a `string` and `fret` attribute they can be used, otherwise
find_fingering should be used.

Some rough versions of

tablature.from_Note
tablature.from_NoteContainer
tablature.from_Bar

have been added in 0.4.1.3 in the mingus.extra package. Attributes are not yet
checked.

Added tablature.from_Track.

Now only need tablature.from_Composition (issue #56) and from_Suite(issue #57)
and
some more features/niceties (marking beats, adding
instrument/tuning/composer/title info)

All conversion functions are done in 0.4.1.5.

Now only need documentation and license (issue #59), meter information (issue
#60),
tuning/instrument information (issue #61) and headers (issue #62)

Module is almost complete. Only missing docs (issue #59), attribute checks
(issue
#64), exceptions (issue #65) and a testing suite (issue #66).
