PDS Review #8

In our meeting on Friday, Dr McNames and I stated that the PDS is for requirements specifications. I still see design choices listed. There are no hardware requirements given to you other than using the quad copter kit provided. Everything else was provided as options for your design. The same goes for any software to be used. So there should not be any hardware design specifications or software library choices listed in this document, but in the Wiki pages describing your options and why you chose the design you did.
So, all the comments about OpenCV and image processing techniques, flight controller software, and hardware like the Edison should be defined in the Wiki pages listing why you chose those options. Much of what you have in the requirements that is more design specification can be copied to the Wiki pages directly and then added to as you go along.

Here are some additional comments I have about your requirements. Some have to do with design choices that I would really like to know more about, but should no longer be in this document.

Hello,

There was a new revision posted before our meeting on Monday that rectified many of the issues that you had with the PDS document that was presented on Friday. That revision was uploaded in the morning shortly before the meeting and I believe you said you had reviewed the PDS on the night before so I don't think you had a chance to read the latest revision. I should've been more clear during the Monday meeting about that.

Regardless, there is another revision that was posted around 11:00 a.m on 2/9/16 titled PDSRev_3_2_Final.pdf. I would appreciate hearing any feedback you have on it when you get the chance to look over it.

I've omitted, as far as I can tell, any design decisions in the PDS and I'll be sure to add them, along with a description of what it means and why we chose it, in separate documentation that will be uploaded to our Github repository.

Here's some quick notes about some of your questions that you posted:

You may see an underlying theme here that we based much of our design decisions off of the idea that this drone will be used eventually for capturing video in a much more dynamic, complicated fashion (i.e. dirt biking, skiing, etc.). Your feedback on our PDS choices has helped us understand what you're expecting our contributions to be over the course of our capstone project and it has been instrumental in better understanding what we should be shooting for.

Thanks,

-Kainoa

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you on this. I had actually looked at the version you uploaded right before the meeting and the notes I wrote are for that version. I have looked through your newest version and I am believe that we are almost complete. We fly out on Tuesday and I really wanted to have this done by then. I am very busy between now and then though. @Kekahuna are you taking on the task to finalize the PDS? If so, lets talk for a few minutes before your standup on Monday to finalize this.

Has this been approved by everyone? I believe that it is acceptable. @Kekahuna
