Zoom not working - Githubissues

Is zoom supposed to work? I read the changelog that it is, but it's not
working. Running mplayer by itself it does zoom in and out with 'w' and
'e', but on gnome-mplayer (svn) all it does is show the change on the OSD
but nothing else happens.

Did you run configure with the --enable-panscan option, also you need a VERY 
recent
mplayer from SVN for this to work.

No, I didn't. Well, I did it now and updated mplayer as well, but now there's 
another
problem. ASS Subtitles don't show up!

If ASS subtitles are not showing up, please make sure that ASS support is 
enabled
when you compile mplayer. the configure stage will tell you if they are enabled 
or not.

OK, edit that. They DO work, but they only show up in fullscreen and not in 
windowed
mode. I can live with that for now; though I doubt it's intentional. Thanks.

And yes, ASS is enabled as always when I build mplayer, and it does work 
normally on
standard mplayer through terminal.

One final note I just observed. The subtitles in fullscreen, like I said, show 
up
fine, but in windowed they are not showing up apparently because they get 
extremely
offset. On some videos I'm observing them peeking through a corner and not in
appropriate scale.

Support for this is really new in mplayer, so perhaps there are still some 
issues to
be worked out with subtitle positioning.

ASS tries to place the subtitles "intelligently" but with huge panscan
values it seems to get it wrong. This happens just as much in normal
fullscreen, try playing some files with extreme values like -aspect 0.4
and you get the same with normal MPlayer and -fs (I tested with
http://samples.mplayerhq.hu/Matroska/mewmew/mewmew-vorbis-ssa.mkv ).

No offense, but that's not what I'm seeing at all. mplayer showing subs fine in
-aspect 0.4 just fine on the short tests I ran with various videos, both in 
widowed
and fullscreen. gnome-mplayer only showing ok in fullscreen on every video 
tried.

Well I retested it this morning with the mewmew video and subtitles work 
perfectly
for me. I opened the video, made the window tall and then selected the second 
eng
subtitle and then used the W / E keys to adjust panscan and the subtitles were 
always
visible. I tested this with xv and gl2 vo's

I'm not too clear. Do you mean gnome-mplayer works? If so, that is strange. 
Subs only
show correct in fullscreen, but stand alone mplayer windowed mode fine. I even
updated from svn.

Yes gnome-mplayer works correctly with subtitles. I'm surprised that you are 
only
seeing them in fullscreen mode. They work here in non-fullscreen mode as well. 
Can
you update to SVN and then post the gnome-mplayer -v output. I have reports of 
it
working in bug #227 as well.

Please select any non-english subtitle and then post a screenshot. I'm pretty 
sure
this works since I am using the same vide and the same configuration and I am 
getting
subtitles in my non-fullscreen window.

I have found this out, it only happens on vdpau. I wasn't noticing it before 
because
despite changing the output on the gnome-mplayer settings, vdpau gets used. You 
can
see that on the output above. When I forced -vo xv or gl in the extra settings, 
the
subtitles showed fine. Still, regular mplayer displays them fine with vdpau.

Sorry, I don't have any vdpau hardware to test with, plus you seem to have a 
lot of
extra options put in the extra flags. If you can make it work, I will be 
willing to
take a patch for this.
