bibikalka1 / HP_Z420_Z620_Z820_BOOTBLOCK2013_BIOS_mod

A guide and collection of resources on how to flash 2013 BootBlock and modded BIOS to HP Z420, Z620, and Z820. The flashing procedure is done with software only, and no BIOS chip clips or desoldering. The modded BIOS supports NVME boot, ReSizable Bar, and a range of CPU microcodes.

Hi bibikalka1 ! I was wondering if i could get a little help or pointed in the right direction.

I have Hp z820 Motherboard # 618266-001 It comes with 2011 Boot Block I would like to use ivy bridge processors in it , thus i need to update boot block to 2013.

I'm having an issue with the step :

"A. Move green password / downgrade protection jumper to Bootblock pins (E14 BB). E14 BB is important, fpt write access will not be obtained without this jumper! Move the ME FDO jumper from its current 2 pins to the other enabled write position."

This particular version of the motherboard does not seem to have the E14 Jumper.

( I am comparing it to a 618266-003 series motherboard i had originally bought to bypass the issue and proceed with the 2013 boot block, but this motherboard seems to be completely dead, as it simply spools the fans @ full speed when powered on so here i am trying to prepare for software flash on 618266-001 which is functional with v1 processors. )

Is this the end of the line? Should I abandon this project, or do you have any suggestions or procedures on how should i proceed with the Boot block upgrade?

Thank you for your time.

You could try the process with your 618266-001 motherboard - and see what happens. Maybe if E14 is missing - it is on at all times? At worst it won't update the bootblock, so you will revert back.

See these 2 links below for more details. You could try a flash chip clip, to fix both of your motherboards.

I think @BillDH2k might have flashed z820 with a clip - need to ask him explicitly.

So the other direction I always wanted to chase is AFUDOS. See this link for details: https://github.com/SuperThunder/HP_Z420_Z620_Z820_BootBlock_Upgrade/issues/13#issuecomment-2269510017

If nothing else, you could try AFUDOS with your v1 workstation, and report back.

Chip clips are not too easy, but can be OK if done right. You can grab a combo on AliExpress, make sure the wires are soldered to the clip, like this: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806334075061.html

The clips are very cheap if you get the intro Ali offer.

People did Raspberry Pi in the past, but you could go with CH341A. Just make sure it has 3.3V selector.

There are tons of youtube videos on CH341A with flash clip.
