MINC / BIDS mapping #67

Hi everyone,

During some discussions that came up at the CONP (Canadian Open Neuroscience Platform) Hackathon in June, we discovered that there were was a lack of mapping between MINC and BIDS.

My understanding was that the main issue was differences in names for metadata tags? (i.e. something like "scan date" would have two different phrases that refer to the same thing.) But maybe someone more familiar with the MINC format could offer more insight into what the problem is.

Is this something that's preventing the adoption of BIDS in the MINC community?

@emdupre @jbpoline do you know anything about this?

@Park-Patrick - can you do a quick search on the BIDS mailing list and link here to any discussions about this? I’d be surprised if there hasn’t been anything before....

Your instincts were right on @KirstieJane -- there was a brief discussion here.

I don't use MINC myself, but I'm pinging in @gdevenyi who would be a great resource for these sorts of questions if he's available to help !

I can say that representatives of MINC were included in the original push to create BIDS, and that a draft spec was created during that time with MINC, which can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1f5E1Wif9o8M8KAvTZSyAfjIPRXUX0CrH1mKxEjKQSB4/edit

I'm not sure of the current status or whether anyone is working on it. I wasn't involved in the original work.
