In the app's preferences, having 'Show first quick access website on launch' enabled will make the app launch the pre-set website. This setting has been introduced and enabled by default, so as to avoid giving the impression to less experienced / less technical users that nothing has happened when the app is launched.
Let me know if changing this setting works for you; if not, I'll look into an improvement.
Ohhhh. Yes, it got enabled by default. Disabling it (ticking off) did bring back the previously expected behavior.
But I do think that by behaving differently from App Store screenshots (the click a URL in app -> preview in WebBuddy) would actually confuse more users.
Maybe having that switch box on the welcome screen with description would be better? (ticked on by defaut so that users who skip welcome screens would not have the impression of "not working" app)
And when you introduce new features in an update that changes/reverts default behavior - there should be a seperate welcome screen for that too - so current users (like me) don’t get confused that update broke the app. (or just one welcome screen that acknowleadges changes and also guides new users)
That’s usually how I saw it handled with other (menubar) apps.
Since 2.6.5 (or it could be 2.6.4 but that used to keep crashing, so idk):
when WebBuddy isn’t already running in the background
Previously (≤2.6.3) it would always open & load the URL link’s webpage EVEN when WebBuddy WASN’T already running in the background.
PS: Sorry for the emphasis, I just wanted to make sure the bug is clear.
