Description:

The "Hands off Rafah" rally in Toronto, which took place on February 12th, went from Israeli embassy to the US embassy. This rally went through the University Avenue (which is also known as the Hospital Row because of multiple teaching hospitals on it). University Avenue through the Hospital Row is a very common route for all types of rally, because it is near Queen's Park (the legislative building of the government of Ontario, Canada) and also the St. George campus of University of Toronto (one of the most prestigious universities of Canada). The Hospital Row is home to Mount Sinai Hospital which was founded by Jewish physicians but serve as a public hospital these days. Even my mother (may she RIP) underwent part of her cancer treatment there. The "Hands of Rafah" rally spanned for about 4 hours and stopped near Mount Sinai Hospital for about 15 minutes, which again is not unusual for rallies. You typically slow down and let folks catch up. Multiple politicians in Canada issued statements saying that the rally stopping by Mount Sinai Hospital and chanting for Palestinian liberation was intimidating patients and anti-semitic despite no hard evidence. They claimed that it was a demonstration at the Mount Sinai Hospital when in fact, it was a demonstration that passed by the hospital on a very common route. I've also included a complete recount of the events by a journalist below as well.
