It might be nice to explore this through a single view so a user can see how the different IFC platforms have progressed over time. For instance, the buildingSMART International IFC Certification for mvdXML are based on IFC4 Addendum 1.
As IFC4 Addendum 2 is the latest version of IFC4, logic would suggest that this is the version that the certification process will be held against. We may need a better way to convey this to an end-user to avoid confusion. Perhaps through a platform such as:
